We were walking towards this town it was odd it had no main roads. The ground toward this town sloped high to the left for 100 yards. McNamara had this boil on his neck he stopped to have someone look at. Good thing he was on the down slope. Sgt. Glover goes to top of bank McNamara is 50 yards away. Glover reach’s top of this little hill. This German is ready to throw a Grenade. Glover got this German before he got McNamara then he opened up with his Tommy gun on the rest.

This story was recounted to me by Richard Wagner and I do recall my dad telling me about it. I bet he was happy to have that boil and for Sgt. Glover's Thompson.

Jim,

Great story! Was Sgt. Glover from the same town as your father? I recall that on the CD you have sent me he mentioned a Sgt.

Actually 1st Sgt. Govey Baird was 1st Sgt. of Regimental HQ. He got my dad switched in England to Demolition from Recon. He is from my hometown and we used to eat in his Italian Restaurant all the time. He married an Italian girl. I do believe that my dad went back to Recon after the Bulge but I can't prove it.

Jim,

Is Govey Baird still around?

Frank,

No but I hear his Son is a WW II buff and he might have some good Regimental HQ Photos. I have asked his cousin to let him know I'm looking for him.
