Hello,

I'm new to this forum, and a few others. I'm looking for more information, or websites where I can find out information about my grandpa. He was 2Lt. Max B. Domina, with the 82nd and that's all I know. I know he has some medals, but I'm more interested in the rigement he belonged to, and where he jumped. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you. I do have a photo of him in uniform, prior to any combat.

2Lt. Max B. Domina was with the 505th although reference could not be found to what Regiment he was in. I did find reference to his being awarded the SOLDIERS MEDAL under 82nd Abn Div General Order #27 (GO 27) of 1944.

Here are the provisions for the SM--you can probably get a copy from NARA.

The Soldier's Medal, section 3750, title 10, United States Code (10 USC 3750) was established by Act of Congress 2 July 1926.

The Soldier's Medal is awarded to any person of the Armed Forces of the United States or of a friendly foreign nation who, while serving in any capacity with the Army of the United States, distinguished himself or herself by heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy. The same degree of heroism is required as for the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross. The performance must have involved personal hazard or danger and the voluntary risk of life under conditions not involving conflict with an armed enemy. Awards will not be made solely on the basis of having saved a life.

It is ranked above the Bronze Star in the progression of Service Awards.

Go 39 was dated to July44 ref actions in Normandy, so GO 27 must predate Normandy.

P.S. I can testify to Fred's testimonial!

Dave Berry,

Thank you very much for that valuable information. This is a dumb question, but what is NARA? Also, do you know of any other places I can find more information? Thanks again for your help.

Sincerely,
Troy

Dave I looked at your site briefly and am curious if you look up people who someone has dog tags for . I have a dog tag that a friend of my Dads (a WWI veteran) gave him. I would like to find the family of this soldier so I can return it, and have no idea how to go about it. Thaks for your help if you have any links I could use

Tdomina,

It stands for

National Archives & Records Administration.

Just Google NARA and it is at the top of the list.

They have a website that you can apply for copies of your Grandfather's records.
