My name is Stewart Crane. I live in a small town in Tennessee. I have been reading WWII books for many years. My wife and I went to Europe in May, 2004, and visited Arnhem and the Bastogne area. It was quite a thrill to see Col. John Frost's hunting horn in the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek (near Arnhem), and the 101st Airborne foxholes at Foy. We saw the Nijmegen road bridge from our train as we were leaving Arnhem. It was a wonderful trip, and we hope to return soon.

Stewart,

Welcome! I hope to make that trip someday myself. I went to Anzio and Salerno years ago with my dad. Glad I could make that one. Just sorry he never got back to Holland.

Jim,

Vols? What Vols? (Put paper bag over my head) The Lady Vols basketball team is doing great, as usual. The men's basketball team is doing well, so far, with the new coach. As for the football Vols, everyone has to have a bad year every now and then.

I don't mean this to be a personal shot by any means, but don't you think that "Jimmy Door Knobs" sounds like a name for an Italian wiseguy? biggrin.gif

During that same trip we also spent a week in Florence. We stayed in a B&B outside of town. The neighbor had a WWII jeep, complete with a scabbard for a rifle next to the driver's seat. I almost asked to buy it.

A Scout Leader in my town has a Korean Era Jeep with a 50 Cal on it. I am having my kid join that Troop. Who would mess with it.

I'm glad I made the Italy trip with my dad. I'll never forget that.
