I recently learned that SGT Dennis T. Speth, who joined A Company in October 1942, was assigned to go to Normandy as a bodyguard of Colonel Ralph Eaton. Colonel Eaton was the 82nd ABN Division Chieff of Staff and was wounded when his glider came down in Normandy on June 6. Speth later made also three combat jumps: Sicily and Salerno (as a mortar squad leader) and in the Netherlands (with HQ Company, 1st Battalion).
