Hi All,

As some of you may be aware, I have been researching for the past couple of years for a book about the time the 504 spent in England (Leicestershire) between late April and mid September 1944. I was born and grew up about a mile from where the regiment was camped at Shady Lane, Evington, and in my youth used to frequent some of the same dance halls and pubs that the troopers used whilst they were here (although some 30 years after them!)

Well, with the help of a few of the forum members (not least Walt Hughes who's help and encouragement has been invaluable, and who I am proud to call a friend), and a number of other veterans of the regiment, and their relatives the project is very nearly finished.

I have found a publisher who is keen to publish the book, and provided I get the remaining information in soon, I'm hoping to publish in the summer (probably July, but nothings concrete yet). Once things are a little firmer for those that are interested, I'll be able to let you know the price and availability, so watch this space!

Regards to all

Peter,

Wonderful news! You can put me down for one copy! Let me know what kind of information you still need (macfrank82@hotmail.com). I can send you some photo's of troopers + tents in England, stories of the May 1944 training jump, etc.

Hi All,

Took longer than I anticipated at the publishers, but the book is now available. You can order it through me if you wish and the cost will be $27 including Shipping to the US (from the UK), £10 sterling including shipping in the UK, and around 16.50 Euros including shipping in the EU.

If you'd like a copy just pm me for now, and I'll let you know how to get your hard earned money to me when the 50 copies I've just ordered from the publishers arrive. If you want to get your copy elsewhere, the details are:
Title: BAGGY PANTS & WARM BEER
Author: Peter Outridge
Publisher: Woodfield Publishing Ltd. (www.woodfieldpublishing.com)
ISBN No.: 1-84683-041-9

Almost forgot, I will be over in the States for 3 weeks in October (6th to 27th, mostly in Georgia, but with a couple of days in NY state to see my good friend Walt Hughes and his wife Mary), and will be bringing a limited number of copies of the book with me (limited by available baggage space and weight), so if you want to save yourself international postage rates ($20 including shipping instead of $27) I'll be able to post a small number from Georgia.

Peter, I will also be in Georgia during some of that time around the Columbus/Fort Benning area. Is this anyplace you will be?
If you want to send me an e-mail my address is mbigalke@mc.net. I would like to get a copy of your new book.
